See here’s the dilemma.
I hate when my favorite artists post shit like…
“Wait until you hear the new material!” or my favorite “Exciting news coming soon!”
As a fan I wanna say, “Go fuck yourself with that cryptic shit, just tell me the news!” but as an artist you want to stay in the forefront of everyone’s mind. I guess that is the challenge in this digital age. If we over expose ourselves and tell you every little detail, where’s the mystique? Do you really need to hear exactly what goes down in the studio every night? Sure, at first everything is new and exciting like getting a new kitten but then after a while that pussy’s not as cute as it once was. So how do we keep your interest in our pussy? I don’t fucking know. I’m going to try and do a weekly blog entry. Some weeks I may have nothing new to report on the band and in that case I’ll talk to you about the twisted personalities, who threw who down the stairs, who quit this week and who forgot to learn their parts. There are certain artists that I follow that are more candid about their lives and it keeps me interested. So we’ll try to do the same.
Let’s catch you up right now.
Yes, we’ve been working on a new record. We have about 12 songs tracked with drums, Sal’s guitars and vocals. A few of them are fully tracked, meaning, Ang, Joe and Tommy infected them with their slimy little fingers. We have a handful of new song ideas that Sal and I are going to work out this weekend and get them ready to record. One thing I am certain of is that when this record is done, we can say, all three SC records sound completely different. That’s huge in my book. The first single is about one mix away from being ready to be released. It’s called Heavy. We opened the last Bowery show with it in NYC. We’ve also been working out the details for the first video for literally, months. The shoot was originally set for two weeks ago but one of the people involved had a medical emergency and we had to put things on hold. Looks like we are back in business so back to getting everything in order. We are thinking about shooting two weeks from now. I’m trying to solidify the dates and everyone’s availability today. I’ll let you know how much fun that is.
I’ll leave you today with an update on rehearsals. I saved the worst for last. I’m kidding, kinda…
We rehearse in a should-be-condemned building. The room is tight, the ceiling is caving in, the window is held together with duct tape and oh yeah, some think it’s haunted. It sounds cool. Sounds like it has a real rock and roll vibe. I guess it does but we are dynamically challenged in that space. Everyone is at a billion decibels, especially Joe! Between that and the arguing about who’s a bigger asshole, our ears are ringing for days! Ang found us a new home. We have one more month until we move. Until then the black cloud hovers over us as we try to work out these new songs. It’s kinda fitting because in my opinion this record is seemingly dark. Every song, although sounding completely different than the next, has this unified vibe as a concept record would. At the last rehearsal we played songs 1 through 6 straight through in album order. Sounded fucking sick! So the goal is to get the last bunch of songs worked out before we move so we keep the black cloud in the mix.
I don’t have an ending for this rant so I’ll be back with more sometime next week.
Stay frosty!
